In the world of Jazz, the notion of a concert program does not exist. Roland Dyens never gives a prior notice of the pieces that he will play in recital. It is his way of creating the best possible atmosphere, by taking into account his audience, the acoustics of the hall and especially his deep desire to be true to his feelings at the time that he actually interprets the music.
In order to create the warm contact whith his public that he treasures, Dyens likes to present the program himself, as the evening unfolds. In the same way, the improvisation with which he opens all of his concerts is a sort of “tuning in” process, a pre-lude that is indispensable for this special artist as it used to be for the luthenists in the past, awaiting the “Suite”.
It makes a nice link between the world of Jazz and those classical lovers who have a taste for invention...
