About The Minimalists Guitars Duo
- Binh Q. Nguyen (USA): designer of The BM Series Guitar, music instructor at MECA (Houston, Texas) for 26 years, former audio technician at Heights Guitar Co.
- Anh D. Nguyen (Vietnam): founder & professional director of So A Music Academy (Hanoi, Vietnam), steels strings guitar researcher & reprentative of The BM Series Guitar in Ha Noi.
The Minimalists Guitars Duo come from the ideas of Mr.Binh Nguyen about Minimalism & Non-Conventional in his music. He has many formats of Minimalism Essemble and introduce those formats with his arrangement around the USA for 26 years.
In 2016 he met Guitarist Duy Anh Nguyen who is 30 years younger than him but has same ideas in music. Immediately he found that they have the same characteristics as his duo guitars model. The combination of an old man & young man who speak the same mother language but live halfway around the world is an important part to make a minimalism guitar duo become perfect.
Performance Pieces
1. Andante from Mandoline Concerto in G (Orig. by AntonioVivaldi/ Arr. by Binh Nguyen)
- In Mr.Binh Nguyen’s arrangement of Vivaldi's Andante, after establishing the minor mode, many supporting chordsare only fifths so they have to rely on the thirds from the melody: mutual dependance is a virtue of duo, not only in music.
2, The Cuckoo Clock (Orig. by Louis Claude Daquin/ Arr. By Binh Nguyen)
- In The Cuckoo even the tempo is intentionally reduced to better immitate the bird singing, not to show off the players: no virtuosity could compete with Mother Nature.
About The Minimalism & Non-Conventional in Our Music
Our "Minimalism" is derived from ancient Asian phylosophy: "if One works then Two should be preserved". The Minimalists applies such concept in both composing and performing music.
Music, intimately and ultimately, may be composed 3 times: by the composer, the performer and the audience. No need to blame Tarrega for dropping Beethoven's melody down to the low region in his arrangemant of Moonlight Sonata but to appreciate a non-conventional approach...That’s why we choose Non-Conventional as the way to “re-compose” the music.
